Today was another very productive day wherein I managed to largely complete one of my initial practicum projects. Yesterday, I had begun the process of locating the call numbers for recent A&M Law School faculty scholarship in our collection. Today, I finished going through the packet of citations and noted instances where items were either (1) not in our physical collection after all, (2) on reserve, (3) checked-out, or (4) already pulled. While there was a great deal of faculty scholarship to sort, it was very interesting to see the breadth of publications A&M Law School has produced. After reviewing and discussing my work with my supervisor for this project, I received the go ahead to begin the actual process of collecting the scholarship from the library stacks. Except for a few items I could not locate, I was able to get all of the scholarship for our display. While it won't be featured physically in the library, we currently plan to take photos of the physical works for digital display.
Finding all of these books physically was time consuming, and I probably moved slower than someone already well versed with the library layout and organization. I often found myself getting a bit turned around, or retracing stacks from which I had previously pulled books. Luckily, Kristen Rowlette had provided me a library "map" that listed general call number ranges for each area for the library. This was a huge help, and I found myself consulting it constantly. All in all, it was nice to walk around and get a much better sense of the stacks and collections in the library. I also had a fun time learning how to use the moveable stacks used in this library. I get the sense that many stacks are not frequently used by students and, if so, are rarely checked out by students.
Photo Description: This is one of the shelves in the library administrative space that was designated for my faculty scholarship pull. As one can see from the titles, the publications range a number of legal topics and formats. I was excited to see so much faculty scholarship on intellectual property law, which is my favorite legal topic.
