After a week away from the Dee J. Kelly Law Library, I was ready to get back into the swing of my practicum. Today was a very productive day; I compiled and checked all the grant opportunities I had previously identified for our faculty member's project and organized them into a hefty spreadsheet. As part of this process, I double-checked any opportunity I had flagged, which occasionally required extra legwork to ensure eligibility. I also performed another few rounds of targeted searches and added to my list of opportunities. As I wanted the master list of grant opportunities to be complete (that is, the project leaders could skim any entry and quickly determine if the opportunity was worth pursuing or not), I had to ensure the sheet's organization was clear and readable. Part of this process was also creating a "short list" of opportunities, which seemed the most promising. I am now awaiting feedback on this first draft of research.
Finally, I began collecting call numbers for a visual display of A&M Law School faculty scholarship. A&M Law School professors have published a tremendous amount of scholarship, which was very interesting to peruse. In some case, professors had published non-legal works, such as a book a poetry. Eventually, I will begin collecting these items from the library, just after I identify which resources are currently unavailable or on reserve. While the amount of scholarship is immense, we only plan to collect items in physical print for this display. The goal is to eventually photograph the physical selections for faculty and university use. This digital display will likely be featured on the law school's web page in order to highlight the quality publication efforts of the school's faculty.
Photo Description: Most of my work today was in my temporary office at my desk (pictured here). I feel very lucky that the library has loaned me my own space for this practicum experience.
